Field Trip

Montessori Kidcamp resumes for another year of summer fun beginning June 8, and will run for eight weeks through July 31, serving children ages 2.5 to 7 years old. Our summer hours are 7:30 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.

Program
It’s summertime— time to get out the band-aids and the sunscreen! We will spend much of our time outdoors which will include both structured and unstructured time and activities. The indoor environment will include a wide variety of puzzles, books, blocks, assorted building materials, manipulatives and arts and craft materials. The outdoor playground includes tricycles, swings, climbing apparatus, a sand/water table, teeter totters, a slide, basketball hoop, and block building area. Neighborhood walks and outdoor picnics will be part of the summer time fun, as well as water play when the hot weather moves in. Group games, movement activities, cooking and story time will be offered to provide balance and structure to the daily routine. A morning and afternoon snack is provided.

Lunch - Nap
Lunch is provided by the school and is served at 11:30 A.M.. Most days we will enjoy our lunch outdoors at the pinic tables in our front courtyard. A nap time is offered after lunch and is optional. If your child will be a napper, please provide a child's sleeping bag or a large blanket, and a pillow. Something to 'cuddle' might also be considered. These items will be sent home occasionally to be laundered. We have removed the lunch hour from our half-day schedule, which allows parents more flexibility with summer schedules. For an additional charge, half day children may have the lunch hour included in their schedules, which is 11:30-12:30. There is no charge for children on a full day schedule.

Indoor/Outdoor Shoes
We ask that you send your child to school with a pair of “indoor” shoes to help us keep the dust and gravel out on our playground where it belongs. An open-toed, velcro sandal might serve well during the summer. A light slipper would also work, or even a comfortable pair of flip flops. Your children will learn to “park” their play shoes on the back porch before entering the building, at which time they will change into their indoor shoes. These indoor shoes will be kept at school until the end of summer. This Montessori practice greatly reduces the dirt and tiny rocks brought into our classroom, which makes for a cleaner, more pleasant environment.

Please be on time when it is time to go home. Our summer closing time is 5:00. Sherry and staff should be in their cars and on their way home by 5:10. If your child’s departure time is 11:30/12:45/3:30, the same request applies. If you have an emergency that requires you to be late, please call the school and let us know. Chronic late departures will be charged a late fee.

Things from Home
We request that you send a full change of clothes for your child that we can keep at the school during Kidcamp. Big Kids too! Please send these in a bag (Kroger bag is fine) clearly marked with your child's name. If your child is in diapers, please send along several, along with wipes, and anything else we need for your child.

You may send a sunscreen from home, with instructions, if you prefer. Otherwise the staff will apply a school sunscreen (at least #30 or above) when they feel it is required. Please indicate, in writing, if you do not want your child to receive sunscreen while at school.

Outdoor Play

At some point during the summer, there will be days when the outdoor temperature and weather conditions allow for water play. On these days the children will be invited to play water games, run through the sprinkler, and have fun getting wet! The teachers have informed me that suits and towels are not necessary, as the children's clothing dries quickly in the sun.

Staff
Montessori kidcamp will be supervised by Pam Morgan, ACDS certified and a veteran staff member of the Montessori Early Learning Center since 1991. Ginny Zuboy, the owner/director will not be on staff during Kidcamp, but she will be coming and going on a regular basis.

The doors will be opened each morning at 7:30 by a regular Montessori staffer. You may be greeted by Sherry Owen, Denise Hass,  Pam Morgan . All three women have worked at Montessori for at least seven years. This summer’s staff schedule will fluctuate to accommodate individual needs. What will be consistent, however, is that Kidcamp will at all times be supervised by our regular Montessori staff. We will hire additional staff as needed.
